Tomoka Osakada (小坂田 朋香 Osakada Tomoka) is Sakuno Ryūzaki's best friend and classmate who supports Ryoma Echizen along with Sakuno at the team's matches.
Appearance[]
Tomoka has medium length brown hair that is lied into two high pigtails. She has brown eyes and a mole underneath her right eye. Tomoka is also quite slender and is around Sakuno's height.
She's often seen in her school uniform but when she is not it is evident that her casual clothes are always a little bit more revealing than Sakuno's.
Personality[]
Tomoka is a very upbeat and confident girl who tends to be quite loud even when she's not cheering for Seigaku. Tomoka does not care what other people think of her and would say whatever she wants, regardless if people get embarrassed or not. It is usually up to her best friend Sakuno to keep her down during her loud outbursts.
When the Seigaku regulars perform well she would often comment about how "hot" or "amazing" they look very loudly, much to Sakuno Ryūzaki's embarrassment. She is the bolder and more dominant of the two (Sakuno would often be unwillingly swept up in her pace). She also likes to drag Sakuno into dressing up and cheering for Seigaku in (usually revealing) strange cheerleader outfits.
Background[]
Unlike Sakuno Ryūzaki, Tomoka is very outgoing and assertive. She is the self-proclaimed and very enthusiastic president of the Ryoma Echizen fanclub. Tomoka wants to join the Seigaku girls' tennis club and attend all the Seigaku events, but she has to babysit her younger brothers.
Tomoka and Sakuno are in the same class. In the manga she is first seen to be telling Sakuno of a cute boy (Ryoma) that she had seen during the orientation ceremony. When she is first seen in the anime, she is wondering why Sakuno joined the Girls tennis club. But when she saw Ryoma having a match with Takeshi Momoshiro, she realized why Sakuno joined the female tennis club. She cheers on Ryoma and the others when they are having a tournament, she even made a costume for Sakuno and herself during the match with Josei Shonan and Rokkaku.
Etymology[]
- The name Tomoka means "friend" (朋) (tomo) and "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka).
- Tomoka's surname Osakada means "small" (小) (o), "slope, hill" (坂) (saka) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da).
