Atobe's Gift

Tsubasa Nishikiori (錦織 翼, Nishikori Tsubasa) was already a regular member even before Akutsu Jin left the team. However, it was only after Akutsu's departure that Nishikiori began to see more action on the courts. Unfortunately for Yamabuki, Nishikiori is much weaker than his predecessor.

Appearance[]

Nishikiori has black hair which matches with his black eyes. Most of the time he is seen wearing his Yamabuki School Uniform or his Tennis Club Uniform.

History[]

Tokyo Prefecturals[]

Yamabuki power their way through to the Semifinals of the Tokyo Prefectural Tournament and meet underdogs Fudomine Middle School who had already caused an upset in the tournament. However Yamabuki did not have to go through a long match with Fudomine as Ibu Shinji suffered an injury before the match making him forfeit meaning Yamabuki were gifted an extra win and were able to easily reach the Finals of the Tokyo Tournament where they met Seigaku in the Finals.

Regionals[]

He and Yamabuki went to the Regionals and cruised through to the Quarter-finals.

Nationals[]

Yambuki gets off to a good start in the nationals defeating St. Icaria. Yamabuki ease their way to Round 2. Unfortunately due to the loss of Akutsu, Yamabuki couldnt win the next round against Nagoya Seitoku, ending their run in the Nationals.

Playing Style and Techniques[]

None of Nishikori's matches were shown, but it is stated that he's weaker than Akutsu. His skills are unknown, as Yamabuki's more famous for Sengoku and their Doubles. As a Singles player, his skills seem to be inferior to Ibu Shinji, Sengoku, and Akutsu, at the very least.

Etymology[]

  • The name Tsubasa means "wing" (翼).
  • Tsubasa's surname Nishikori means "brocade" (錦) (nishik) and "weave, weaving" (織) (ori).
