Inoue and his assistant Shiba Saori are chiefly responsible for covering the junior high tournament. Inoue's all-time favorite player is Echizen Nanjirō. He actually played a game against the legendary Samurai and although he was completely beaten, Inoue was very honored and grateful.

- The name Mamoru means "nursemaid, guard, protect, defend, obey" (守).
- Mamoru's surname Inoue means "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i) and "above, top, upper" (上) (ue), which literally means "above the well" altogether.
