Yoshiaki Matsumoto (Japanese)
Arnold Ignashov (アーノルド・イグニショフ) is a member of the USA West Coast Region Junior Team. The team was part of the Goodwill Games which was friendly match between them and the Japan Kanto Region Juniors where Ignashov and the American side lost 3-1.
After immigrating to the United States from East Germany as a child, Arnold became disillusioned and turned to life as a street punk. After he was beaten up, he discovered a magazine with an article about Baker training athletes and becomes involved with his program. According to Baker, Arnold has never lost in an official match. Part of this is due to his determination to not want to return to this 'hellish' life. However, he loses to Shūsuke Fuji of Seigaku , who incidentally has never lost in an official singles match before at this point during the Good-Will Games.
Ignashov has long dark grey hair which is tied back into a ponytail.
Arnold tends to keep a frowned yet serious facial expression almost all the time.
Regional Select Invitationals
Ignashov is placed in Singles 2 against Fuji Shusuke of the Kanto Region Japan Juniors after the scores were tied with 1 win each between the two teams.
Playing Style and Techniques
Arnold is called a tennis machine because of his accuracy and the ability to figure out his opponent's shots and countering them. Arnold is a Right-handed player.
- His (Unnamed) stats are 80.3, 81.3, and 84.5.
- His playstyle and the nickname of "Tennis Machine" is reminiscent of the New Prince of Tennis character A. Frankensteiner. Both characters are highly accurate in their shots to the point of being machine-like, which is represented in the series by the characters having a mechanical point of view (although the style of the view is different). Both characters have a robotic nickname, with Frankensteiner having the nickname of "Cyborg." Both characters are also coincidentally (or maybe intentionally) of German origin or relations.
